Each year at Pinewood several schooling shows are held specifically for our students. All of our students are eligible to compete and classes are offered
for every level of competitor; from those who are just starting and are
comfortable only at the walk to those competent enough to compete over fences at
3'6". These shows give everyone an opportunity, whether they own their own
horse or ride one of our school horses. It introduces the concepts of show ring
etiquette, ring skills and a sense of the competitive spirit that drives
the desire
to work harder and improve for the next show. The shows are run along the
lines of any other show, judges are hired, horses are turned out with manes
pulled and excess hair trimmed, some manes are braided, ribbons are awarded and
dress code is observed, although we do not prevent a student from showing for
the lack of a show coat. Our shows are known for their great atmosphere, they promote a sense of team spirit in our students, everyone roots and encourages everyone else, the more experienced help the less experienced and they all learn that it is not all about the ribbons and winning, that it is not always the horses fault (and don't ever think about taking it out on the horse!), it is more about how you conduct yourself, how you treat others and your horse and to be able to lose with as much grace as when you win. Our shows also provide a unique opportunity for us to give our 'sale prospects in training' some valuable show ring experience, in a horse show environment with tents, crowds and many sights and sounds, they are more solid when they go away to their first shows, having had those experiences.
